does hibernation need power?

My power management window says that the battery power is good for 67
days if the laptop stays in hibernation.

Why does a computer need power in hibernation?
 
It doesn't, it is powered off entirely.
In vista there is hybrid sleep which is a cross between hibernation & sleep,

I meant to add that hibernation saves the system state to a file on the hard
disk & shuts down entirely.

Unlike a light switch which directly controls the power to a light
bulb, the computer power switch is a soft switch that controls some
electronic circuitry, which must be always powered, that turns the
computer on and off.
