This new and improved version of your User Interface reminds me of another
corporate giant mistake that lead to the creation of Classic Coke...
 
It is not 'our' interface. No-one here works for or speaks for Microsoft.
This is a user peer group forum.

FWIW take-up of Office 2007 does not bear out your observation. Yes the
change was irritating to Word power users, but you quickly get the hang of
it and new users find it easier to work with.
