HI, I have McAffee and I blocked the following application because I could
not get any information on it to verify if I should allow acces:
K404SearchSetup_MS10.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\K404SearchSetup_MS10.exe
Permission: BLOCKED
Rule created on: 7/30/2004 9:26:36 PM

Does anyone know what it is? Should I allow access?
Many thanks!!

Thanks Carey, but I already have Spybot. I just want to know if I should
allow access to this thing: K404SearchSetup_MS10.exe. Do you know what it is?

Hi JR,

I find the same sort of pleblem with may things, tyrying to know what is
working what and so on.

Bye the way Norton Sysemworks is good at this sort of thing (Naff company
apart from that).

I have a trick which has nor failed me yet.

If I find a file and I am not sure about it or what it does, I find the file
and rename it by putting an '&' in front of the file name. then i wait to
see what will not work. When an application errors and say cna't find
'nastyfile.exe' I look for that file with search as '(note this bit) * (got
that) nastyfile*.*. and it wil find a file called '&nastyfile.exe'. So then
me thinks do i want this file to work for me.
If I do then I rename it and remove the'&'. if I think it is (how shal we
say) giving me the old mess about. I either don't rename it or (if I feel in
the mood) I delete the old bugger. That is what thew recycled bin is for
isn't it!

I know it is a back to front way about it but it really solves the problem
and can be recovered. I can tell you that the file is not needed to run basic
windows. so it is unlikely to make your system fall over.

So i say stuffit with '&' and see!

Good luck

Thanks Simon. God forbid that this day and age technology is made to be
'easy to use and understand' UGH!!

Have you tried right clicking the file and going to properties? It may
tell who the file is from.

It's an internet application blocked by McAfee firewall - I selected to block
it because I don't recognize it. When I right click it via the McAfee
Security Centre, the options I have are: Allow full access/outbound
access/block this application/delete application rule/get more info.
When I select 'get more info' I am presented with the following: "No
Application Data. This application has not yet been described for HackerWatch
users.
If you would like to send feedback to the HackerWatach administrators
regarding this application you may do so on the feedback form."

If McAfee doesn't recognize it I did not want to chance it....does this help
in determining what it is?
