Does anyone know if it is possible that a MOBO cannot operate with certain OS?

I cant get my mobo to boot to XP. no matter what i try it loop boots,
but runs 98 fine. Its a newer board, i just had a few questions, your
help would be appreciated.

So i was reading the MSI manual for my motherboard when i read
something i previousely had missed.
It says to do some sort of combo install of windows 2000 SP4 for the
windows 2000 environment on a raid drive setup.(and also that 98 and
me wont work on SATA connectors, but i dont use sata so o well)
otherwise the install wont work. DOES THAT MEAN FOR ALL OS INSTALLS?
or only if your gonna run 2000?

Also:The system came with Windows Professional Media Center. Is it
possible that the MOBO wont support XP home, since it was designed
for
Media center?
I dunno, the newer boards get scarrier and scarrier. HELP PLZ

Most of the porblems are cause by the MOBO's BIOS/CMOS. This contain
the "control software" (aka firmware) which allow the MOBO to boot the
OS. Most MOBO makers do publish BIOS update files periodically in
order to fix problems with OS access by the MOBO. Last time I seen a
major BIOS update for OS access problems was when XP first came out.

Then there are MOBOs that have purposely be "lamed" to not allow a
certain OS to be installed. This type of problems happen very rarely.

BTW: If Media center was installed on it, the XP Pro "may" install on
it since Media Center is based entirely from Pro.
