documents gone!!! :(

one of the users on my computer has lost all of her documents from the my
docs folder. it is completely empty. also, in event viewer this is
completely empty. how can this happen and how can i recover them.

i have up to date virus and firewall which do not report any intrusions.

i cleared the 'recent documents' but this shouldn't delete them should it?

i have all documents on a partition seperate from windows and dedicated to
documents only. all of my docs are still intact. this all sounds like virus
but as i say, my virus defs are up to date.

Okay - you're conflicting with your own statements here. First you say that
you have lost all documents then you say they are safe on a seperate
partition?

Or are you saying that the other users documents are gone but yours are
fine?
 
i'm saying one users have gone but mine are fine. also this users display
keeps switching to classic view and all icons have disappeared from start
menu and desktop. also in my account, the event viewer is empty.
