My documents, pictures and saved web pages change from their normal file size
to an unusable 0KB when I open Windows Explorer. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks.

Download Ad-Aware 6.0 and scan your PC for the presence of spyware:

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show?

Pete,

are you moving files from USB disk or similar. I
encountered this problem when moving files from external
usb disk.

This happens all the time. When they are 0KB I replace them using my backups
on CD and then when I go to use them again at some time later they are again
0KB. It seems like there is something about opening the windows explorer
window that causes them to change, but I am not sure of this. I believe this
to be the triggering event, because when it is occurring I can go into a
folder and as I watch they files begin popping off to 0KB. Of course, I do
not know for sure if this also happens by opening the files in Word. Norton
Antivirus finds nothing and Norton is installed before any other programs or
files are added to the computer. It is obviously something .. I .. am doing
because it has occurred on several computers, even new ones and you are the
first I have encountered that has experienced the problem. I do not know if
it could be spyware, due to the fact I load many programs on my computer and
some do collect information. I have run programs like adaware and spybot but
to tell you the truth I cannot remember what the results were. I suppose I
should run them again. I have my firewall on in Windows, but from time to
time I turn it off because it restricts things that I want to be passed.
Maybe I need to adhere to the recommendations of the firewall protection and
ignore these programs I want that are not cleared by it, haha. Well,
hopefully someone will come up with an answer for us. If I hear of a
solution, I will try to remember to pass it on to you. Thanks for your reply
to my posting.

That fact that Norton finds nothing is only partially significant. It could be a False
Negative declaration.
