Whenever I log onto my username on Windows XP, a document window opens up and
it is quite annoying. I was wondering if anyone can help me? thanks

If it is the My Documents folder that opens on startup, see this note:

From previous newsgroup post by Doug Knox - MVP:

<quote>
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look in the right pane for a value called Userinit. Its value should read:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

Including the trailing comma. If it reads anything else, double click
the Userinit value and change it. This assumes that XP is installed on
C:\Windows. If not, adjust the command line accordingly.

</quote>

If that does not help, see what startup applications are running. Get the
Autoruns utility (as they call "superset of MSConfig") from
www.sysinternals.com and inspect the startup programs.

Hi, Ramesh. I posted this a couple of minutes ago:

"At the startup of my new pc, the same folder window opens each time. I think
it is because I restarted my pc once with the folder still open, and now it
won't close. It's not in the startup folder or the registry (as far as I can
see). I tried ticking and unticking the option which allows you to decide
whether to have folder windows opened at startup which were closed at
shutdown.
I normally wouldn't mind this but the pc isn't even a week old so it's
annoying.
Thanks,
Frank"

You replied just there to a similar problem concerning the my documents
folder and said that the filepath below was the default, but this is where I
have my problem. I don't want this window to open at all.
Please help, Frank.

Which folder is opening?
