I am converting pdfs to Word 2000 using Omnipage Pro 14.
I want to use the Document Map so that other people can
navigate through these documents. However, it seems that
word picks very random lines to include in the document
map. Is there any way to edit the doc. map other than
changing the internal formatting? Is there any way to
have selective control over what appears on the map? Is
there a better way to do what I want to do?

Hi Wynn

First, Tools > AutoCorrect. On the "AutoFormat as you type" tab, un-tick
everything in the "Apply as you type" section and un-tick everything in the
"Automatically As You Type" section.

Before you try to use Document Map in a document, you have to make sure that
*you* have told Word what to display in the Document Map. Otherwise, Word
will try to guess, and 9 times out of 10, it will guess wrong.

The Document Map shows paragraphs depending on their Outline Level. You can
set an individual paragraph's Outline Level through Format > Paragraph (here
"Body Text" means no outline level; it doesn't refer to the style called
Body Text).

However, by far the easiest way to apply Outline Levels is by using a style
that has an outline level. And the easiest ones to apply are the built-in
heading styles.

So, when your document comes into Word, apply appropriate heading styles. If
you don't like the formatting of the heading styles (eg you want a different
font or size) then modify the styles.

Hope this helps.
