How do I fix the formatting of a document so that it looks the same to any
one who opens it?

Hi, Mike55Y. See
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/sharing/WillMyFormatChange.html. If you want
your document to look exactly the same on other people's computers, it would
be better to convert it to a .pdf file and send that instead of the original
Word .doc file. If you have unusual fonts in your Word document, you should
embed the fonts into the .pdf file too.

.
Some "Unusual Fonts" may not embed. It depends on the
originator's licensing protocol. Some "Type Foundrys" don't
allow any embedding. "Fonts" are programs and giving a
bunch of recipients the programs may not be permitted.
