docmd.sendobject alternatives

I'm having problems with the docmd.sendobject command after upgrading from
A2000.

Has anyone worked out a solution that will check the user's default email
client and then prepare an email based on that ? It should open the prepared
email onscreen for user editing/addressing.

If Outlook then...
If OE then...
If Lotus then...

I'm looking for code that is not too MS-dependant. It should be able to send
email even if Outlook or OExpress is not installed.

I'd really like to hear from anyone who has had good success in integrating
email into their distributed access applications.
