In reading the newsgroup.. It appears having DivX may be causing some of the
problems I am having.

Can anyone tell me what DivX is, or where to go read about it. Also, is
there really any impact to uninstall it?

I have a DELL XPS running XP SP1 and primarily use my system for video work
(All-in-wonder ATI graphics card).

Thanks

DivX is a codec for a type of video compression (like avi or MP3)
if you are not watching films coded in DivX (or Xvid) then you don't
need it
DivX is also the name of the player software (the playa) which often
installs spy or adware which can cause a problem (gator I think)

if your not watching films you can remove it
if you remove it and can't watch films you can restore the player and
then run adaware to remove the spyware.

I have DivX with no problems but do not use the player that it came
with only others like windows media player or sonic

hope this all helps
