Is it possible to import names and e-mail from Excel or word to a
distribution list. The user has a large file in word and excel and would like
to create a distribution list from the file.

Dear Louisq,
I am responding to myself. The answer is as follows. In excel you create a
named range with the First & Last Name& email address. Other fields are
possible to import into contacts. Once you name the range with the fields,
close Excel and open up Outlook and go to File Import Export and choose Excel
and follow the wizard. There will be a screen where you move your range field
to the contact fields in Outlook. When you click finish, it should import.
Once the contacts are imported you can create the distribution list. I hope
this helps.

This doesn't work for me--it looks like it's working but nothing imports. I
have no choices in my folder list but 'contacts'. Other choices are just
mail folders. Am I looking in the wrong place?

No. You cannot import into a DL. You can only import into a Contacts Folder.
If you can arrange these names an email addresses in a proper format, you
might be able to copy and paste them into a DL:

I think! Think bieng the operative word here!

In the excel file you could add a column that you map to the "catagory"
field, populate it with "Distro List" and when you import the excel file into
contacts simply change your contacts view to "group by catagory" open the
Distro List catagory and then drag and drop the names to the DL.
