Hi,

I've created a Distribution List using "Select Members" which allows me to
basically link to an already existing contact. In that way, if the Contact
changes, the "Update Now" will pick up the new change. That has worked
great. However, when I upgraded to Outlook 2003, I converted my PST to the
larger (unicode) version. Now each Distribution List entry won't resolve
properly. I still have the original PST which I can open concurrently, and
then it will resolve properly. However, when I close it and restart
Outlook, I'm back to square one. Is there a way to update the entries to
use the current Contact folder entries rather than the original? This can
get tedious recreating a large distribution list. Any pointers will be
extremely appreciated.

Sincerely,
John

How did you transfer your Contacts? I've never seen a DL survive an import.
DL's remain connected to the original PST.

Hi Russ,

I just imported the old PST into the new PST - all came in including all my
contact folders. The Distribution Lists were part of the Contact Folder.

Take care,
John

This is just one more reason we advise against importing PST's. Far better
simply to reuse a PST. The only potential disadvantage (now that Outlook
2003 is on the scene) is that that will leave your PST in the older ANSI
format. That's not really much of a liability unless you think your PST will
exceed the 2 GB limit.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for your message... I didn't know about this advice... that was
precisely the reason why I upgraded the PST since I had heard horror stories
of what happens after it hits 2G. Somehow, 20G appeared safer (it's really
more like 10-15G since the same PST is now roughly 50% larger). I was
hoping there was a way to have the individual DL entries updated to the new
Contact folder. I would think that a clever programmer would figure out a
way to update the links, but suprisingly enough I don't see evidence that
such a program exists or even that this problem exists. Thanks once again
for your message.

Take care,
John
