Hello & thanks in advance. I would like to push via SMS or a GPO a Safe
Senders List to my client workstations that are running Outlook 2k3. I know
how to push the filters.txt file for junk mail but I would like to push a
whitelist rather than removing stuff from the filters.txt. Does anyone know
where that file is located & what the name is?

I know I can import/export but I'd rather just lay a new file down without
user intervention.

Outlook 2003 does not use Filters.txt, and that file in previous versions
was information-only. Editing it did not affect the junk mail processing.
Outlook 2003 stores junk mail settings in the user's default information
store.

To deploy lists to Outlook 2003, you need to create your lists (Safe
Senders, Safe Recipeints, Blocked Senders) as text files and either copy it
to user's machines or place it on a network drive. You can deploy the
location of the file with GPO. In the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
administrative template, look under Tools | Options / Preferences / Junk
E-Mail for "Specify path to Safe Senders list" and the other related
settings.

To perform the actual import, set the DWORD value JunkMailImportLists in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail to 1.
Do not attempt to do this in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Policies\Software\
Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail. Microsoft cautions that doing so
will cause excessive remote procedure call (RPC) traffic between Outlook and
the Exchange Server.

The Custom Maintenance Wizard has all the pieces you need to both deploy the
..txt files and the registry settings.
