distorted script

The script on emails and some other applications appears to be overtyped
with random characters or sometimes straight vertical lines over the body of
text almost like a bar code. I can read the script on emails by highlighting
it then clicking elsewhere on the page and on some applications it clears
while the cursor is over the affected words.
I have checked for a virus and cleared out spyware but the problem
persists......... any advice would be appreciated.

Just in case this happens to anyone else - I found the problem to be on the
video card. New one fitted, all OK.
