I had posted this in help and support but have not found an answer that
works. So I am reposting here to see if anyone can help.
My Windows XP Pro SP2 system had been running without any problems. I leave
it running 24\7 analysing Seti data but turn the monitor off when not
actively using the computer. The problem I have now got is Windows will only
show the classic display. If I go to display properties, appearance the
windows and buttons drop down box only shows Windows Classic Style it does
not show Windows XP Style as it should. The task bar and all other visual
effects are now the classic style. I had not even rebooted for this change
to occur, I only turned on the monitor and noticed the difference. I have
Norton Antivirus 2005 updated and Pest Patrol updated and Zone Alarm Pro the
latest version available. The only program recently installed was Security
Task Manager but that was about 1 week ago and the computer has been
rebooted since. System restore does correct the problem if I use it and I
have True Image backups if needed so the problem is not terminal. I would
just like to try and find out why the problem started. Has any one seen this
problem before. I did try sfc /scannow but it made now difference. I keep
the system updated with the latest drivers etc but have made now changes
other than installing Security Task Manager but I cannot see that causing
the problem.
