My cat jumped onto my Dell Inspiron notebook running Window XP and now the
display is sideways. How can I configure the display back to the normal mode?

Try Ctrl-Alt-Up Arrow.

Give your cat PC lessons

Toss the cat on it upside down.

HELP ME PLEASE!
A popup window in the middle of my screen stays while pc is on.

It says contrast and user mode with symbols around the edges.

At the bottom it shows Vertical & Horizontal numbers that vary
..
In the middle a box is blue or blinking red.

I have updated my videos drivers and insured my screen resolution was
correct. Yet, it still is there.

I have to read and work behind it as my mouse is hiddden behind it as well
as what I am viewing.

Windows XpHome E
dition SP3
IE8/firefox 3.5.3
Adaware
No printer currently installed
HiJack this
No other software currently running
This is very annoying and getting unbearable. Please ask me anything or give
me advice on may be the problem.

You posted into someone else's old, closed thread. Next time make a new
post. However, since you're here:

This message is coming from your monitor, not your computer. The monitor has
buttons on it that allow you to make changes to its display. One of those
buttons might be stuck or you might need a new monitor. Messing about with
your *computer* isn't going to solve this.
