display changes don't stay

I am running Windows XP. I have tried to change the background on the display - using a background picture that came with XP. However, everytime I run a program - any kind, such as excel, a game, or outlook - when I close the program the display has reverted back to before I changed - and applied - it

I have virus protection running continuously and have check for trojans and spyware

Any suggestions?

Thanks

That doesn't sound right, Wendy. If you haven't made any recent changes via
the Accessibility wizard (if you have, revert them), run this edit:

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Kelly, That did not work. However, I found if I switched from Windows Classic to Windows XP in the settings, my changes reappeared. Thanks.

Whoops, never mind my last message. The screen just switched back, so changing from classic to xp didn't work after all.

Wendy, check to see that visual effects, windows and buttons are not being
switched. And also, have you checked the Accessibility Wizard to clear all
display changes?

Other than the above, run the edit on line 214:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and if you have any desktop
enhancer/background switchers installed, verify that you have selections for
it to switch to.
