Display above 800x600

anytime that i set my moniter display higher than
800x600, i get the lines that run across the screan like
heat waves during hot summer in the distance, it just
happens any resolution above 800x600? could it be a bad
moniter?
 
Could be a bad monitor, could be higher than your video card supports.....do
you have another monitor you can test with?
 
You are attempting to use a display resolution or refresh
rate that your monitor doesn't support.
Solution: choose a lower refresh rate or do not operate the
monitor above 800x600, or replace the monitor.
NOTE: This is typically seen in 14" and 15" monitors.

Possibly. But you just may need to install the latest monitor drivers.
