DISKMON

I have DISKMON installed on the Taskbar. Sometimes I see the drive light
turn-on and hear the drive working but the DISKMON light on the task bar does
not light up. Why?

Not a Windows issue - why don't you ask the author of that software.

It's only on for the duration of the access; it could be the access is just
so short (fast) that it isn't noticeable to the eye. Not unusual.

Nonsense. The hardware LED is also turned on during access only.
