I downloaded diskeeper 8 for a 30 day trial and i foound
it very good, but afterr this trial period I keep getting
requests to buy it on start up. There now appears to be
no defragmenter in my accessories on XP and I cannot
uninstall it.

Lol...not enough. Although I'm certainly not the only nightbird in this
group.

I am surpised that it is not listed under the add/remove programs control
pannel. My full version is listed there.

Some ideas:

1. Look for an uninstall program within the diskeeper directory tree,
instead of something in add/remove programs. This might have a name like
"uninst.exe". Be sure to get the one in the diskeeper area, not some other
one.

2. Erase the diskeeper directory, then try one of the following: (a) copy
defrag.exe from the XP CDROM to your hard drive and try to run it, (b) do a
repair installation of XP, (c) get the free diskeeper lite, which is
essentially the same as the XP defragger.

Of course, you might want to buy diskeeper, full version. But, I agree that
you should also have the option to get back to where you started.
