Hi
Help! Why is my disk space losing mor espace instead of gaining space when
I have deleted files from the puter and the recycle, and deleted programs?
 
Have you rebooted since deleting files?.. do you have Norton Go-Back
running?.. how much space did you expect to recover?.. have you taken into
account variables like the pagefile?.. what program is telling you that disk
space is getting smaller?..
 
Ok yes i have long since rebooted. No I do not use Norton. About 50-60MB.
I don't know what pagefile is? I click on my computer and check disk space
and that is where i see it getting smaller. Thank You so Vrey Much for
trying to help me!!!!
 
I had the same problem a couple of months ago. In one day my disk capacity
went from 94% to 42%. I knew it had something to do with my having done a
couple of system restores. Someone by the name of Jupiter Jones from this
support website gave me the following instructions and it corrected the
problem. Don't be afraid to try it, it works!

Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.

Click System Restore Settings on left side.

Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.

This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.

Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.

I've been having exactly (or what appears to be exactly) the same
problem. My PC's tech. support today also got me to turn off System
Restore and this recovered my lost disk space (all 20GB of it!!!). If I
then lerave System Restore turned off, all is well (except that I don't
have the system restore facility of course). However, if I turn on
system restore again, the same problem comes back and every time I boot
up I lose a further 0.5 - 1.0 GB of disk space. (See thread "Lost Disk
Space" in this news group). Tech support are investigating and are
going to get back to me when they've pondered the problem whichnot only
I have been suffering from, apparently.
 
That is exactly why I always disable system restore on all of my
computers...... so much drive space goes to waste.......

For some, the ability to do a system restore outweighs the need to have
large amounts of free space..
 
In my experience, System restore has done nothing but cause more problems...
that's why i never use it anymore. I know for some people it works, but
apparently i am not one of them.

yes, but 1, system restore is very useful, 2, this problem of loads of
extra disk space being taken away on each and every re-boot has only
happened very recently for me and I wonder whether a recent windows
update has caused this behaviour?

I do not deny that system restore can be useful. I have heard from people
who say it has saved them from a format many times... I just said that my
luck with System Restore has not been good, which is why I disable it on all
of my computers.
