Disk Space Complaint by Old App

I'm running ACT for Windows, an app that was last updated in the days of
WIN98. Runs fine, except that when I want to reindex the database, it
complains about insufficient disk space. The database files total about 5
mb, and I have 11 gb free on my hard disk. Are there issues with old apps,
and ways to fool them?

Old apps make assumptions about maximum possible sizes of disk-space,
RAM etc and use data-types which are too small to hold the actual sizes.
So any calculations they make end up being wrong by orders of magnitude
due to severe rounding errors.

Tried running it in Compatibility Mode?

Tried it just now, but can't test the reindexing feature (or any others)
because the menus vanish completely! I can see this is going to be
interesting.

Hey! I remember that! You must be as ancient as I am! :-) I'll let you know
if it works, later today.

Bugger. I've been trying to FORGET all that stuff. Next you'll be going
on about the best place to put your HIMEM.SYS parameters.
