My system disk (C:) was partitionaed when i got the
computer into three sections. I have joined two of the
sections, but it doesn't seem to be possible to rejoin
the system section of the disk to the newly created
larger partition of the disk. Is this a security measure
or am i just missing something somewhere along the line??
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

I think you may not have a good understanding of partitioning. Windows XP
does not allow you to merge ( 'join') partitions.

To manipulate partitions safely, you need third-party software. Two
excellent choices often mentioned in these groups are Partition Magic
(www.powerquest.com) and BootItNG (www.bootitng.com), although the first one
is safer for beginners. Whichever you choose, be sure to read all the
instructions very carefully, twice. Partitioning is serious business.

Why would you want to join the hard drive into one?
You don't want a place to store your data if you have to reinstall Windows?
You want Scandisk and defrag to take a long time?
