For your info:
I installed diskeeper lite. It might be better than Bill's product but
in fact, it's nagware.

I used to use this software - it's a lot faster than the built in
Defragmenter supplied by Windows. But there came a time when it wouldn't run
on one particular drive - claiming there wasn't enough space. After
uninstalling it, I used the default MS product, which ran just fine - after
which DKLite, when reinstalled, would again function perfectly. Having
verified that it was a bug in the program, I sent an email off to the
provider. When I got no reply within 2 weeks - not even an acknowledgement -
I discontinued using it. Then I found a "how to" somewhere - might even have
been in this group, or on the PW site - install and use the WinME version on
my Win98 system. This was one of the biggest improvements of the ME
operating system, and it still works perfectly today - in about 1/3 the time
that the Win98 version used to take.

And your point being...

The site describes it as Freeware, and it even made it to PW once or twice I
think. It's certainly been reccommended in this group before. So the warning
is quite on-topic.

I much prefer the command line version of DIRMS and the older Buzzsaw
GUI. I have Buzzsaw running at start-up to take care of the files DIRMS
has already defragged.

JMHO.

I seem to have missed a step. What version? What's the URL of "the site"?

Nope - Diskeeper Lite has never been on the Pricelessware List.
FYI - the cumulative PL is here:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/CumulativePL.php

last freeware version:

Program: Diskeeper Lite
Author: Executive Software
W: LFW
Ware: v 7.0.418
http://www1.execsoft.com/dklite.exe

Thanks for the clarification, Susan.

You can go into the diskkeeper lite directory and rename ShowHtml.exe to
ShowHtml.exe.txt This will prevent the nagware screen loading.

Thanks for that tip. I've been annoyed about that, too.

I didn't work for me. OS is XPHome(SP2). Altering the ShowHtml.exe name
crashed my machine. On rebooting Windows Installer said "preparing to
install" and launched knlwrap.exe (in the common files directory) which
restored the original ShowHtml.exe, and of course the nagscreen. I'd be
interested to know if any other XP users have had problems. I'm considering
replacing the file with a blank dummy one with the same name and size, but
I'll wait to see if there are any other ideas.
