We are creating stand alone computers using custom .NET software, Windows XP
Pro and Dell Computers. No end user ever looks at the screen of this
computer (it handles telephone calls).

We want to great new system via a disk image of a system set up properly
(probably using one of the PowerQuest drive image products). Is there a URL
that might help us with the pros and cons installing everything via this
approach?

Since Dell computers already come with Windows XP installed (but not
activeated), are there any licensing issues of installing an image that has
another dell Windows XP installation (activated). Can it be reactivated
with the new numbers on the new dell? It not, I would think it would appear
we are using the same XP over and over again.

Lots of uncertainties on how to do this, so hopefully you can sent me in the
right direction.

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob,

I have listed a few articles below that discuss licensing and the
Sysprep process used in conjunction with the imaging software.

You will find Sysprep as well as Setup Manager on the Windows XP CD in the
Support Tools Directory. You will need to extract them from the Deploy.cab
file. The help files within this cab are also helpful with this process.
This will provide you with all the information you need to begin your
testing. There are also several articles that address how to add OEM
drivers on the Microsoft Online Knowledge Base.

Good Luck,
