Please help! this is the message I am getting.

Not only that, but I look on Task Manager all the time (even though I'm not
sure what it does) but I do notice that the flickering light at the top of my
laptop is more or less constantly on, so assume that is something to do with
the fact that the CPU is always so high - running 100% when I try and load
most things. I don't understand about processes on the Task Manager - though
note that there seems to be duplicated items, though some used by system,
some by network, and some by me - gets really confusing

I'm no computer buff by any means. I started getting annoyed when I started
trying to use Nero 7, to send my mum, and mum-in-law a slide show of photos
of the little kiddies, and as soon as I got to "burn" it just stopped
responding!

Starting to get really fed up - seem to be spending more and more time
trying to solve errors since I got this new computer last September - When I
had windows ME, it seemed to work fine - now I have Windows XP Professional -
its causing me a nightmare!

Just for summary:

I use lap top
Have ASDL connection
Norton 2006 internet security
Have downloaded Windows defender
Use Windows XP Professional

Having problems with
Data Defragmentation
Nero 7
Skype (web cam doesn't work - though works normally)
Installing new Internet Explorer

Anyones help would be absolutely wonderful!!!

Cheers

How To Fix Windows Built in Defragmenter
http://www.andreasroom.com/blog/archive/2004/01/18/defrag.aspx

This fix worked for me. dfrgntfs.exe was crashing. Both from defrag.exe in
a command prompt and dfrg.msc.

Start | Run | Type: regsvr32 dfrgui.dll | Click OK

Start | Run | Type: regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll | Click OK

Navigate to...
%windir%\inf\ | Right click dfrg.inf | Select Install

Thanks for that Wes, but it didn't work! still getting message "Disk
defragmenter could not start"

Anything else you think I could try!

Helen

Try this, Helen.

Anyone getting the "Disk Defragmenter Could not start" message and on
Windows XP Home This is what worked for me. Go to Control Panel, Select
System and select the Advanced Tab. Now Select Settings Under Performance
and again select the advanced tab. Under Virtual Memory select Change. Make
sure that the Paging File Size for selected Drive for the Drive partition
you want to Defrag is set to System Managed Size. Once I did this Defrag
started working again. I don't know how the Page file got turned off on my
system but this has been driving me mad for months!! Hope it helps someone
else out there !!!

Thankx for this!!!!! it seems that the disk defragmenter is working, but
won't knot until it has completed the task - its working very very slow!!

Can you help on any of my other problems?? or do you think that disk
defragmenter will sort them out??

Cheers

Hi Helen,

Glad that worked out.

For some of the other problems...

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.
