When I try to run Disk Defrag in XpHome I get the error message:

"Defragmentation of (C:) has been aborted due to inconsistencies that were
detected in the filesystem. Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair
these inconsistencies, then run Disk Defragmenter again."

When I run CHKDSK (c:\WINDOWS|system32\chkdsk.exe) it says:

"The type of file system is NTFS

WARNING! F parameter not specified.
Running CKdsk in read-only mode.

CHKDSK is verifying files <stage 1 of 3>
30* percent completed"

* It runs through the percentage till 100% and then the command prompt
window closes, I get the same message in disk defrag when I try to run it
after the CHKDSK

Any HELP would be much appreciated. I have had the computer 10 months and
havent defraged once yet.

Right click the C drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer. Select
Properties. On the Tools page, use the error checking section to initiate
chkdsk. On the dialog screen, check both boxes and click OK. You'll receive
a message that the tool cannot run at the moment. Answer yes to run it on
the next startup. Close the windows and restart the computer to let chkdsk
do it's job.
