I have been using xp pro for about a year. No viruses. A few days ago I
began to get a message "press a key to reboot" than I began receiving "Disk
Boot Failure-Insert System Disk" When I run in safe mode it does a disk
check but always freezes before reaching 100%. Once in while I am able to
get to desktop and run files but this is getting to be very rare.
I cannot locate my XP Pro software CD..

Any Suggestions what is causing this and how to correct

Your HD and /or installation is failing.. it could prove to be an expensive
week for you.. if the computer is still under warranty, contact the computer
vendor.. if it is an OEM verion of XP that you are using, contact the
vendor.. if it was a retail version, Microsoft will, I understand, replace
the cd, but proof of purchase is required.. I guess if you have lost the cd,
there will be no chance of finding the purchase receipt.. alternatively, and
this is the expense to which I have already made reference, go out and buy a
new HDD and XP Pro cd.. contact the (failed) HD manufacturer, and they will
send you a new one in exchange for the failed drive.. on receipt of the
replaced drive, you can install it as a slave and use it for backup
purposes.. you may have to have an RMA number that is generated by an HD
diagnostic utility. the utility can be found on the HD manufacturer
website..

thanks, Mike...

Does the HD manufacturer only warranty for one year or does it not matter...
All that I need to do is provide the RMA #.. BUT.... how do you run the HD
diagnostic utility to get the rma if you cannot do a disk boot?

thanks, Ken

RMA (Return Material Authorization) :
Submit your RMA request and an RMA authorization number will normally be
e-mailed to you within 1 -2 business days, along with complete
instructions for returning your defective drive.
(from https://www.fujitsu.ca/warranty/hdd/rma/desktop.html)

I think is has nothing to do with the actual harddisk, but is an
administrative number.
