How can I get an XP Pro (NTFS) box to recognize a floppy created on Win98. Friends child has taken some work home on floppy from school (MS Word File), made additions to the file, but when the floppy is used back at school on the XP box the only thing it keeps saying is 'disc is not formatted'. Now obviously the home pc is running FAT32 and the Pro box is running NTFS but surely their must be some compatibility using floppies between the two file systems. What am I missing here?

Greetings:

Floppy Disk is not Accesible, not Formatted, or not Recognized by Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;140060&Product=winxp
(140060) - When you access a floppy disk, you may receive one of the
following
error messages: A:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready. -or-
Disk is not
formatted The disk in drive A is not formatted. Do you want to format
it now? -or-
STOP: The disk...

Hope this helps.

There is no difference in the floppy disk between XP & 98 and you should be
able to use floppy disks between the 2 systems.
Accepting what is stated on the MS website it's down to the formatting of
the disk, NTFS & FAT32 do not effect the floppy disk. It may be the disk is
just faulty I have had this happen and formatting a fresh disk and then
copying the files back to it solves the problem.

best of luck
