Disappearing word files

I have a user experiencing a word or windows explorer problem - not sure
which. When saving a word document to a windows 2000 server, the file is
invisible through windows explorer. She can see the file through recent
documents or when opening through word. A restart often fixes the problem.
She has a habit of naming files with multiple periods (eg letter to
client.may.15.04.doc). Could this cause an issue? I have deleted and
recreated her profile on her machine, but the issue continues.

Ann C,

Why does she want to view a .doc formatted file in I/E? Is it because she
is saving it as a webpage? If that is the case then yes, naming using
periods would be an issue because periods (as you see in the adddress bar of
your browser) are commonly used for either JAVA or http:// or ftp://
addresses, etc...

Here's a file-naming suggestion: Use underscores or spaces in .doc format
filenames. However, if these are html or any other web-based formattd files,
the spaces would not be allowed nor the periods. [Hence your file naming
issue]

I hope this information helps.

Bright Blessings,

yes adding "." will cause the file not to be recognised. try naming
the file something like test.doc

I bet you will be able to see it then!

Thanks. I have renamed a bunch of her stuff. My concern is if I swap boxes,
the issue will continue as it is her naming habit not the o/s. It seems to
happen when she is busy and moving through multiple folders.
