When I try to call up the task manager by any means, it appears briefly and
then disappears.

this happens no matter what method i use to call it up.. ctrl alt del or run
taskman or trying to run it from the toolbar.

i ran lava ad-aware and sis a virus scan. nothing came up. i tried a system
restore to 5 different points and each time the message was the system could
not be restored to that point no changes where made. try another system
restore point.

i don't know if this is related or what.

i would be very greatful for any guidance.

thanks

Deb

this may sound idiotic but..if i run this, will it conflict will my existing
virsus scan program. i have a updated mcafee firewall and virus scan
continually running .

Hi

No, the Panda online virus scan will run independently of your own AV
program and won't interfere with it. You will be asked to download a small
file, which is needed for the scan - it is non-intrusive.

Hi

Your task manager/regedit problem might be the work of a worm or
something similar (it could be from some spyware or parasite as well).

To try to solve your problem, do the following:

Copy and paste the URL address lines into your IE address bar:

http://www.dougknox.com

In the menu, select Win XP Utilities, Disable/Enable Task Manager.

Hi,

I ran the program and used the copy of the taskmanager and the same exact
thing happened.

the taskmanager opened for a second and then it closed.

sigh..i guess i should try to run more virus scans or something.

Hi,
You might try the DOS-version of F-PROT.
Donwload and unzip:
ftp://updates.f-prot.com/pub/fp-def.zip
ftp://updates.f-prot.com/pub/dos/fp-316a.zip
ftp://updates.f-prot.com/pub/macrdef2.zip

and start
f-prot.exe
in cmd.exe
