Disappearing Sys Tray Icons?

Anyone have any idea what would cause intermittent population of the system
tray on boot-up. For about a week or so now, the system tray hasn't fully
populated on boot-up; except this morning, of course! On most boot-ups,
about a third to half the program icons that are supposed to appear in the
system tray don't show up although the actual programs appear in the process
tree. For example, one day the Wireless Network Connection and Spybot S&D
icons won't appear, but maybe a couple of days later they will; in between,
the printer monitor icon and the password program icon don't appear, etc.

I have exactly the same problem. In my case, I can work around the
problem by leaving the computer in the logon screen for a couple of
minutes before I log in. Since I usually leave the computer running,
it does not bother me a much.

I have convinced myself that it is related to my software firewall,
but I have not done anything to try to confirm that. I am running
Kerio Personal Firewall.

Since I've had the same firewall for more than a year, and the problem only
started a week or so ago, I don't think it's causing the problem in my case.
Thanks

Hide inactive icons is checked, however, it's been that way forever. All
that seems to do is hide them "on" the taskbar, but they're still there if I
click on the arrow.

Try disabling the SSDP Discovery Service and the Universal Plug and Play
Device Host service.

I checked both services and on my system they were both set to "Manual". I
disabled both, rebooted and it appears that, at least this first reboot,
resulted in all the icons appearing in the system tray. We'll see what
happens tomorrow, etc.

Thanks for the help.

Your suggestion appears to be the solution. All the icons for the
appropriate programs continue to populate the system tray.

Thanks for the assistance.
