Hello,
I hesitate to ask this because I suspect I know the
answer, but....I installed several games on my new
computer with XP. Yesterday I went to play a game I
hadn't played in months and discovered that the entire
program folder was missing. The desktop and start menu
short cuts were still there though. Does XP uninstall
things that aren't used for a certain period of time, or
do I have one weird virus?
Thanks,
Melinda

Hi,

Try performing a search on your computer to see if there is any trace.
And check if you are using the same login id that you used when installing the games. Mostly it happens that when u install the games in one login id the other login ids do not see the games.

And did you perform a system restore recently. Most probably that a system restore would have restored your pc to a date before you installed the games.

Melinda, shame on you for thinking Microsoft is as Devious as that. Did
you look in C:\Program Files.
Were the games demo's that had a time limit or restriction? Do you need
the game CD to be in the
cdrom drive in order to play the games?

OK, to answer both of your questions. Yes, the program
requires the CD, but there are no system files for it to
know that. I looked in Program Files and there are
absolutely no files for this game. It was the full
version, not a demo. I have not performed a system
restore on this machine ever. I installed the game using
my administrator account and tried playing it in that
account as well as one of my user accounts. In both
cases the desktop short cut claimed that the file it was
pointed at no longer existed. There is no trace of the
games. Also, I installed the lasted virus definitions
and ran a full system check, no viruses. I'm now blaming
my husband...or my cat.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Melinda
