I have Outlook 2002 and XP home.
I booted up this morning and opened Outlook and got a
message that said it could not find "outlook.pst" I
manually looked and it and archive.pst are nowhere to be
found. I have lost all saved mail and address book
entries. This has happened 2-3 times since I got this
program.
What causes this?
Can I retrieve my old .pst files?
HELP~!

Windows XP often puts .PST files in hidden or system folders, so make sure
you search there. I don't know why you're having the problem with Outlook
not being able to find the file, unless you are having trouble shutting
Outlook down properly or something...you might try running a detect and
repair operation.

I have searched the entire drive (including hidden
folders) for any file ending in .pst and only found those
belonging to other users on my machine. Mine are totally
gone. How do I run this detect and repair operation?

Just to be clear, a Detect and Repair won't find any deleted .PST files
(though you could possibly try a 3rd party program that will recover deleted
files...check www.slipstick.com for possible leads on that). Detect and
Repair should appear on the Help menu in Outlook or any other installed
Office program (Word, Excel, etc.) Make sure you have your Office CD handy
when you are running the D&R.
