Disapearing messages

Outgoing emails are sent and a copy is placed in
SentItems
box, however they do not reach SMTP server. Outlook
behaves as though it connected to the server and sent the
email, however it never reaches the SMTP server and
therefore is not delivered.
Even an email addressed to myself never gets delivered.

The SMTP server appears to be functioning correctly; I am
able to send email via the web interface to my account.
All the incoming email is retrieved correctly from the
mail server.
Any ideas?

Is it possible that I have a trojan that redirects all
outgoing emails to a different SMTP? Correct SMTP server
is specified in the Outlook.

Sounds like your service provider is fiddling with the mail servers.
Call support if it doesn't correct itself soon.

As far as trojans go, nothing would suprise me. I would run your
updated virus software, also run Ad-aware and Spybot.

Do the above often especially if you have kids using your computer.

I did contact my ISP and accordint to them they have no
problems with mail server. I believe they are correct
because I get exactly the same behaviour on my other email
accounts (not provided by my ISP). Also, I am able to
successfully send emails if log in via web interface (not
using Outlook).

I do have current Norton's Anivirus definitions (Oct 24
updates) running but I will also try your other
recommendations.
Thanks,
Greg

Just another thought.... If your by chance behind a router/hub you
should have the full mail path. For example instead of "shawmail"
have "shawmail.cg.shawcable.net". Without the quotes of course. You
can safely add the same comment in Pop3 and Smtp.

Here's a site that lists them:
http://www.askmarvin.ca/shawlist/shawlist.htm

Of course this is not any help if your not with shaw, but
never-the-less the full path is an issue some times.

Thanks for the response.

In my case this is most likely not an issue.

This behaviour of disapearing emails started recently, I
have noticed it over this past weekend. Everyting was
working correctly before that. No changes were made to
the configuration of my system, at least as far as I
know. That why I was reffering (in my original post) to a
possible trojan/virus redirecting my messages.
