Is there a way to disallow win98 client joining my 2k AD domain (mixed mode) without my (network admin) knowledge

and BTW, what does DSClient do, other than allowing DNS lookup logon?

Win9x can't join a domain to begin with - and no credentials are required
for someone to change the workgroup name to the domain name & choose "log
onto Windows domain" in the network settings. I don't think you can stop
someone from doing this - and mixed mode, native mode, won't make any
difference (that refers only to the versions of domain controller OSes
permitted).

....for DSClient info, see here:

Very true. *sigh* I was wondering if there is any work-around

Anyway, thanks for the confirmation. I guess I have to duel with my problem diplimatically

To put it simply, if I change my domain to native mode, windows 98 won't work at all. Is that right

There are plenty of reasons to ditch Win9x in favor of newer/more secure
OSes (and having everyone on the same OS is a very good thing)...what's your
argument, and what's management's counterargument? I'm sure plenty of people
here can give you long lists of reasons why Win9x ain't suitable for a
corporate network.

Nope - it won't make any difference. Native mode means you can't have any
non-W2000 domain controllers - clients don't enter into it.
