disabling passwords

I am trying to backup data on a hard drive that has a SMART error on it ("you
need to backup your data immediately and replace your hard drive"). I have
the hard drive installed successfully as a secondary drive on another
computer running WindowsXP. I can get into every folder EXCEPT the one that
my important files (i.e. my novel) are on, which is password protected due to
the nature of the user system on WindowsXP. Every time I try to open My
Documents inside my user folder, though, it tells me that access is denied
and that it may be password or write-protected. It also does this for my
Favorites folder and every other folder inside of my User folder. Does
anyone have any ideas on how to get into this folder?? I have already taken
it off read-only so that didn't work. Or, failing un-protecting this folder,
does anyone know how to get the last temporary auto-recover files from Word
for Windows 2000? I have no idea where they are stored. My version of Word
is still on the hard drive, but it doesn't want me to open it because it is
not "configured for the new user." I am DESPERATE to get a couple files out
of My Documents on the old hard drive!
