Hello,
I use windows XP and connect to the internet via broadband. I've
downloaded the current media player but anytime i try to run it, I'm told
i've got no connection to the internet. It seems something is preventing me
from accessing it. I have been told that it only happens when you are behind
a firewall. If it is true, can i get help with the step by step procedure of
disabling firewall or if any other help is at hand, I will be pleased to have
it. Thank you

Disabling the firewall when it is most needed seems to be a strange idea, if
that is your plan why not just uninstall it? That will remove your
protection without you having to do it every time you want to connect.

As an alternative you could consider configuring it to work properly, that
way you will get protection.

It is your choice though.

You haven't given your firewall name so it is hard to be specific, but
almost every program has Help on the menu- that should help you to
configure, disable or whatever you decide. Or go to the secret publishers
website- most have help there.

Hi Eben,

First, do not disable the firewall - that'd be the worst thing you could do
if you are not protected otherwise. It would not prevent the media player
from reaching out, it blocks unwanted incoming traffic (that which is not
initiated by the user).

Second, open the media player and check tools/options on the network and
performance tabs. If you are behind a router or on a work network, you may
find that ports used for some media transmission have been blocked.

It's not a firewall problem. Leave the firewall intact.
