Does anyone know if it is possible to disable file
sharing on a small business network?
None of the computers need to connect to any type of file
server.

Please help, i think i have a real security issue on my
hands.

Give credit to Mat :

you must first open 'my computer' no explore it, then go
to 'tools', 'folder options', and click the view tab.
right down at the bottom of the list there is an option
to 'use simple file sharing (recommeded)' this must be
unticked. now when you go to the security of a folder,
you will have many more options.

however the best way to make folders private is to use
the user accounts.

let me know how you get on!!

If you also do not need to connect to print servers
as well as file servers then you could try not having
the Server and Workstation services start. This will
cause you loss of some other things. Alternatively,
go to the network interface connectoid (r-click My
Network .. select properties, highlight connectoid
in the right pane) and r-click into the properties of
the connectoid. Then, scroll to and select/highlight
Tcp/Ip and select properties, and in this dialog uncheck
File and Print sharing . I imagine you then will need
to do the same for the IPX protocol.
