Hi,

I excedentaly disabeld my monitor from the device manager and set the
monitor device usage to disable.
Now the monitor is not working when the Windows is loading.
I tried with safe mode and still didn't help.
After memory count and loading windows the screen is black.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

Try "safe mode with command prompt", use the administrator logon, then run
"control sysdm.cpl" to open system properties where you can access device
manager and reverse the changes.

Otherwise, you may need to do a repair installation:

.... it seemed like a good idea at the time?

I'm beginning to see why M$ tried to bury a lot of system stuff halfway
to China. Apparently not deep enough, though.

It's just nice to know why people do stupid things once in a while. It is a
stretch to call two distinct changes, that take multiple mouse clicks to
implement, an accident.

It's funny because we did it too, way back when.. I have forgotten how to
get over the problem easily.. maybe you can furnish an answer..

Awhile back someone else mad the same mistake(?) or 'excedent'.

these instructions were provided:
with you eyes closed (just kidding) but yo can't see what is on screen so
basically same thing.

1)Start Windows; give it time to finish loading everything.
2)Physically, push your mouse up & left as far as you can. As you can't
see the pointer, this should avoid any Icons. Right click.
3)Press UP ARROW key once FIRMLY. Press ENTER key.
The Display Properties opened, though invisible.
4)Press each key following FIRMLY, in this order:
TAB,TAB,TAB,TAB (4 times, that is)
RIGHT ARROW (4 times, Firmly)
TAB (4 times, Firmly) (NOTE: you may try 7 tabs here)
Press ENTER. You are in Advanced settings.
5) TAB ( 5 times)
RIGHT ARROW (2 times)
TAB (once)
ENTER. You are on the Monitor Properties page.
6) NORMAL key tap on TAB.
UP ARROW, firmly.
Almost done.
7)TAB firmly.ENTER.
8)Restart. Pushing the button on your computer (just a push, not a hold)
will properly shutdown Windows.

I'm not the author, although, I verified the information.
If the author responds, tell her/him thank you!!

I was very surprised to see that mvp's are more interested with my English
spelling and with why did I do it instead of helping.
I thought this is why this place is here for...
So to all the curious people - if you do not know the answer to the problem,
please don't respond, it really doesn't help.

To the other more professional people that DID take the time to answer, I
would like to thank very much!

P.S - Was my spelling better this time?

Some of us haven't disabled video completely in a long time.. one tends to
only do it one time.. so do we immediately know the answer?.. maybe not, and
certainly no two minute fix.. I was quickly passing through as I was busy
installing XP Edition Familiale (XP Home French) onto two computers supplied
by a client of mine.. incidentally, French is not my native language by a
considerable margin.. I would have been quite happy to go away and do some
research on your problem and get back to you, but by the time that I had
come up with something, others had answered.. in the meantime, I did leave
an aside to a comment made by another..

It is sad that you could not see the humour in what was said, but no doubt
you considered your cause to be serious and requiring immediate attention..

We, the royal we, MVPs and many others do support here voluntarily, in our
spare time.. we get little for it, sometimes a 'thank you', sometimes a
bunch of abuse, but we still do it because we have a desire to help others
in an area where we know that non-technical people will run into
difficulties.. it is our aim to make the computing experience of others as
enjoyable as is possible..

I have a small poster above my desk that reads as follows..

A LACK OF PLANNING ON YOUR PART DOES NOT NECESSARILY CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY
ON MY PART..

Did you try the suggestion by Dixonian69? Did it work?
We'd like to know. It WILL enable your monitor, but we've only done it as a
test.
A confirmation from the OP would be appreciated.
