I would appreciate any help offered. I have an xp
professional software system. the blaster worm has been
removed and both my c and d drives are free of viruses.
However, when I call up word, I get a grey screen and a
message that my macros are disabled. The boxes are:
disable macros; enable macros; more information. I don't
know what macros are. I can usually get rid of the
warning and proceed to the word document. But then I
often get another message: global template is read-only;
do I want to give another name to the template. I don't
know what global templates are, have tried to work with
both problems with my limited knowledge, and nothing
works. I don't know why word and my documents bring up
grey screens and warnings. Powerpoint and Excel do not
have these problems. It appears that part of my office
suite is corrupted (word and my documents functions). If
anyone can help out, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

One other thing for Neil: I don't remember what circumstances this
applies to, but for some (?) systems, applying a security patch
automatically resets all your security settings to the most restrictive
levels. What this could imply is that you have an add-in (a special
template containing macros that may, e.g., build a custom toolbar,
add toolbar buttons, etc.) that always ran unimpeded but is now being
flagged as possibly unsafe. The specifics of how to get back to
normal vary with your version of Word. I'm presuming you have Word
2002, which has by far the most arcane security fences. It's unlikely
that your Office suite is corrupt.

This isn't my area of expertise, but if you'll repost your question
to microsoft.public.word.newusers someone will be able to help you
there. Mention the version of Word you're running (Help-> About).
