Please help !

I transfered MS Word and MS Excel files ('97 versions) from my old Windows
XP computer to my new Vista computer (2007 MS Word/Excel). They were not
"read only" files in my old computer. Now that they're in my new computer,
they are read only and I've tried everything to change that. I've clicked on
each individual document and changed it...only to have it revert back. I've
right clicked on the entire document file and removed the "read only"
option...on the file and sub files and so on...only to have it revert back
again. I'm completely frustrated and can think of 100 other things I could
be doing on a nice sunny Saturday. Any help is much appreciated ! Thanks !

If you copied the files to a CD and restored them from there, then they are
read-only by definition. Select the files in Windows Explorer, right-click,
choose Properties, and remove the check in the Read-Only box.

Possibly this is what you have done; it's not entirely clear from your
description. If so, then there's more going on than I understand.

I transferred the files via a Belkin Easy Transfer cable. And, the files
weren't a "read only" in their "pre-transfer" state. In fact, I went back to
my old computer and double checked. They're still there...and still not a
"read only".

I'd like to try your suggestion but I have a stupid question: How do I even
access the files in Windows Explorer? I'm completely new to Windows
Vista...and MS Office 2007. Thank you for your help.

I have no idea how to access Windows Explorer in Vista, but you could try
Windows Key+E, which is what works in other Windows versions.
