I run XP Pro.
I have at home a small workstation with 4 computers.
Whenever I want, I used to disable the intranet, keeping the Internet only
for the main computer.
Recently, when doing such same operation, I received a message stating : "
It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection
may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug and play or it
may have been initiated by another user or the system account"
What does it mean ?
How can I restore the old status?

.

What it means is that some setting in your system's
registry has been changed to disallow disabling that
connection, either by another user or (more likely) some
piece of software. Do a System Restore back to a date
before you first noticed this problem and you should be
fine.
