disable instant messenger

I like to leave Outlook 2002 open all day so I know when
I get new emails, but I've discovered that it
automatically signs me on to MSN Messenger-- so people
send me messages while I'm not actually at my computer.
MSN Messenger is also not my primary IM client, and I
have never opened Messenger software on my computer; is
there a way I can disable automatic sign on from Outlook?
Thanks!

Go to Add/Remove programs and then add/remove Windows
compnents. Scroll to the bottom and take the tick out of
the box next to Windows Messenger. This will unistall it
and stop you signing into it

Tools, options, other - uncheck the 'enable instant messenger'.

Or uninstall it. But note it has a nasty habit of reappearing when you
update Windows, in my experience.

Tools>Options>Other. Uncheck it at the bottom.
