Disable/Enable EWF dynamically?

Is it possible to turn EWF on / off dynamically, meaning without
reboot? I searched through the whole ng and msdn resulting in a clear
answer: NO! Everybody keeps saying, that it isn´t possible without
rebooting.

Now my CEO sent me the following link:

http://www.windowsfordevices.com/sponsors/SP7571057230-AT5087429582.html

The writer claims to be from Microsoft and also claims turning EWF on
/ off dynamically, without defining the phrase dynamically exactly, is
possible.

So there are three possible ways:

- The author means dynamical in another way than "no reboot necessary"
and it is not possible to turn change EWFs state without reboot!

- The author is just a wuss, is not from Microsoft and just writes
down crap!

- It is possible to turn it on / off w.o. reboot and I (and about the
whole community in this ng) am missing something out!

Probably someone can clarify this case?

Best regards!

Hi Roberto,

Jon is from MS and he know what he is saying.

Quote:"
Both types of overlays share some commonality?they both disallow writes to
the protected media when active. Both can be either enabled or disabled
dynamically to allow updates to the protected media to occur. You can also
have more than one overlay on each volume, and each overlay can be
independently controlled in the runtime.
"

This probably means that you can do it from run time XPe and not from TD
nothing more. He never said that you don't need to reboot computer.

Slobodan

I agree with Slobodan, Jon probably just meant that you can control it
with ewfmgr. It's also worth bearing in mind that this is a very old
article, and EWF has been updated somewhat since then. You can change
the boot state of the EWF as many times as you like before reboot, but
it's only the last one which matters as the state *only* changes on
reboot - that's when the state flag is read.
