I have a computer with XP Home networked with another
computer with XP Pro. I am using a 56K modem for my
Internet connection. I have enabled Internet Connection
Sharing on the XP Pro computer. I am able to connect to
the Internet on the XP Home computer through the XP Pro
computer, however, everytime I log on to the XP Home
computer, if there isn't an Internect connection on the
XP Pro computer, one is automatically established. I
would like to disable this so that it only connects when
I open Internet Explorer. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks

On the XP Pro computer, right click the shared dial-up connection,
click Properties | Advanced, and:

1. Check the box that says "Allow other network users to control or
disable the shared Internet connection".

2. Un-check the box that says "Establish a dial-up connection whenever
a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet".

Reboot XP Pro, then reboot XP Home. XP Home should then have an
Internet Gateway icon in the Network Connections folder. Click that
icon to make the XP Pro computer connect to the Internet, then start
Internet Explorer. To make XP Pro hang up, click the icon again and
click Disconnect.

Go to tools in IE, click on the connections tab and
choose never dial a connection. This way it shouldn't
automatically start when you turn the computer on.
