I seem to be having a problem lately playing some games...I checked DXDIAG
and noticed that it lists version 8.1....So I went out to install 9.0c and
when installing I get the message that I have the latest version...Any ideas
what I can do ???

Thanks in advance for your help......................Drew

Save the file to your Desktop, then open it.

I have *exactly* the same problem except running the full download did not
help. I want to be sure I am running this download correctly. I run the
executable and it asks me for a folder to extract the files to. I give this
and then it extracts the files and stops dead. So I go to the folder and run
DXSETUP.exe sitting among the multitude of CAB fles. When I do this an
installation program opens, I press a couple of NEXT buttons and I receive a
virtually immediate message saying Installation Complete. Yet DXDIAG and
several programs I'm trying to run say that I'm running DirectX 8.1. Any
other suggestions?? Thanks for any help.

ONE suggestion, (perhaps not YOUR solution)

First, be sure that the "extract files to" directory is not the final
destination directory. The final installation directory should look
something like
c:\Program Files\DirectX

If you are unzipping to that directory, you could be corrupting the
stuff you're trying to run.

For this installing process, unless the program's install routine
overrides me invisibly, I have created a special directory on C: which
I call c:\UnZipped. I then name each program's install directory
under Unzipped.

such as c:\UnZipped\DirectX

Once I have the program installed, I can then take the DirectX
unzipped files from the UnZipped folder, and I can get ALL the
unzipped files, in one directory, and move them to my backup drive (G
or H). Sometimes that UnZipping process can take a LONG time. Saving
the UnZipped version even to a CD will save you one step next time.

Good luck!
