DirectX problem when running games

When I run some of my 3D games on XP, the screen becomes completely black
but I can hear the sound fine. I tested every aspect of DirectX 8.1
(4.08.01.0810) and nothing is wrong. So I followed the trouble shooting
guide like changing the refresh frequency and choose to lower the hardware
acceleration and nothing worked. My video card is NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX
400. What should I do next? Thanks in advance.

Maybee an upgrade to DirectX 9.0B would help;

I don't think that xg's video card can handle DirectX 9.0b. He may want to
check to ensure that it's compatible first.

Provided he gets the latest drivers from nVidia, they should support the
DX 9 functions in software if the card does not have hardware support
for a particular one, and use hardware where it does

GeForce2 MX/MX400 does not support DX9. It can not support DX8 or lower.
This is a hardware limitation. You can update all the latest driver you like
but will not support it.
