Does anyone know where I can get a list of valid directories under the
Windows dir. I have a few that seem strange:

ex: minidump, peernet, ime and a few more.

Thanks.

You better live them alone. Just run a full virus/antispyware scan if you
feel unsecured. But don't delete files that are in the windows directory...
"minidump" folder it's use by windows to store crash reports,
"peernet" is an optional networking component provides a framework for
peer-to-peer programs to communicate directly between computers over Network
Address Translation (NAT) devices and over the Internet.
"ime" folder contains files to support Input Method Editors that allows
computer users to enter complex characters and symbols (such as Japanese,
Chinese, Tibetan and Korean characters), using a standard keyboard.
"twain_32 folder" contains files to support Twain technology, enabling a
scanner document to be inserted into a file..
"web" folder contains files and subfolders to support internet printing and
document access..
"apppatch" folder contains the program compatibility engine, which allows
windows to modify how individual applications run...

etc etc..

that's almost like asking what are valid PROGRAMS under win.
That list would be millions of items long...
Of course the folders that Microsoft generates when installing windows
is a different matter..

Uninstall all programs that you don't use,
Registry cleaners show you a lot of stuff that is not used.
Try renaming folders: see what happens.
